This is a prayer call for South Sudan. Violence erupted in Juba, South Sudan over the weekend as the country celebrated its 5th independence day. Hopes of the fragile peace deal sticking have been dashed as the media is reporting that the world’s youngest nation is hovering on the brink of return to all-out civil war. Just since last week, hundreds have been killed in the capital city, thousands are fleeing, and the US has evacuated its nonemergency embassy staff. Juba is a warzone and it seems to have spread beyond into Torit and a few other areas.Obviously, this situation is fragile and could, at any moment, erupt into violence again and so we need your continued prayers!Pray for peace and reconciliation in South Sudan. Pray that the violence would stop. Pray for no more bloodshed and no more violence. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)Pray for unity for the people of South Sudan. Pray against the spirit of divisiveness and tribalism and pray for a united South Sudan. “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:5-6)Pray for hope and comfort for the South Sudanese. There have been many lives lost and we mourn with those who mourn. Please, pray for their peace and comfort. “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)Pray that the church would be a light in the darkness. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:18
